We hate to admit it but the Summer holidays are drawing to a close and the new school year is just around the corner, there's only one thing for it, its time to start planning your next family holiday!
Are your thoughts already turning to your Christmas plans? The shopping, the organising, the cooking... the washing up.
Here at R&S Chalet Collection, we invite guests to spend a magical Christmas in the mountains; with all the extra trimmings that make Christmas so special and a festive holiday with us, so unique.
Of course, we would say that, however, so let's find out from our previous chalet guests. Pete and his family spent Christmas with us at Chalet Guytaune, so we asked him to describe his Christmas skiing holiday experience with R&S.
What made you want to spend Christmas in Morzine with R&S?
We had our heart set on Morzine for Christmas due to its convenient location and traditional village feel.
We discovered R&S out of chance, having read the Trip Advisor reviews. They spoke volumes and the fact that they had the number one chalet in Morzine, we knew we were guaranteed a great stay. The pictures of the food sealed the deal!
Staying in a chalet over Christmas was the easy choice, unlike overpriced hotels where you miss out on the little things that make Christmas unique, a chalet becomes an extension of your home for a week. There's a wood burning fire, a tree and you can even bring your Christmas comforts (onesies and Christmas stockings welcome!).
Wanting a touch of luxury added to our week, it was a no-brainer choosing Chalet Guytaune. The chalet reviews were amazing and it sounded well worth the money.
When did you arrive?
We arrived on Monday 21st of December, ready for a week of festivities!
Did the chalet feel Christmassy when you arrived?
The chalet was just how you would want it to look (and smell!), with tasteful lights, subtle decoration outside and a roaring log fire to welcome us. A huge pine Christmas tree with real presents underneath was a really nice touch.
What was the resort like during the Christmas period?
Ski resorts normally have a Christmassy feel about them anyway, what with all of the snow and twinkly lights, but Morzine does it really well with lots of Christmas trees and street decorations. There's a really nice buzz about the place, especially on Christmass eve. Santa made an appearance in the afternoon on his sleigh, (much to the kid's excitement), and later on, all the bars are full and playing festive music.
Describe Christmas Day
Waking up Christmas day surrounded by mountains, with the excitement of being somewhere other than home, but with the freedom to enjoy yourself like you were, was perfection.
We had ski lessons on Christmas morning, (which quickly shook off the hangovers), and the atmosphere was great. The pistes were really quiet and people were handing out presents to ski instructors and pisteurs! Just a really friendly, Christmassy vibe, with festive hats and onesies being the norm. We even spotted a few santas skiing down the mountain!
After lapping up that fresh air, we went back to the chalet and opened our presents. We warmed ourselves by the fire, drank some mulled wine and opened a couple of presents to Christmas music... perfect.
After some quiet time together, we opened a few more presents and had a catnap before coming down for some hors d'oeuvres and a glass of bubbly.
Christmas dinner was superb. The table looked stunning and the food was to die for - an amazing Christmas banquet and strictly no overcooked turkey allowed! The company was great. We drank, we ate, we laughed and it was perfect!
Santa's elves cleaned away the dishes and table while we lounged by the fire, played some games and ate more food before heading into town to revel in the bars for more wine and more Slade renditions.
No dishes, no hosting, instead we got to completely relax and enjoy our Christmas day.
Would you do it again?
We loved it so much, we're coming back for more this year!
Would you recommend it?
We've recommended it to all of our friends and family, a few of whom are hoping to join us this year.
Why should people do it?
It is the perfect excuse to get away from all the run-of-the-mill commercial nonsense and just relax and get spoiled - a perfect end to the year. Kids will have a Christmas they will remember for years to come and you don't have to lift a finger.
There's no place like home at Christmas unless, like us, you secretly wished you could get away from the gifts, formalities, pressure and over-cooked turkey. We wanted our Christmas to be about good food, good people, and the day itself. You will enjoy unique and memorable experiences and we couldn't recommend it more!
